Atlanta Couples Therapy with the Gottman Method
What is the Gottman Method for Couples?
The Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman after decades of research studying thousands of couples. Their research identified the behaviors, communication patterns, and relationship dynamics that contribute to healthy, lasting relationships and those that can predict relationship distress. From this research came a whole system of relationship success via therapy.
The focus is on building a healthy partnership, which starts with a friendship. Over time, we work on increasing fondness, and improving emotional responsiveness. Couples learn to take responsibility, recognize harmful patterns of criticism or defensiveness, and express appreciation through various methods within Gottman.
Some of the methods Gottman uses include Love Maps exercises to better understand each other's inner worlds, Dreams Within Conflict to explore the deeper values and needs behind disagreements, the Aftermath of a Fight Protocol to repair emotional injuries after conflict, and Stress-Reducing Conversations to build daily emotional support, as well as the Four Horsemen.
Whether you are experiencing recurring conflict, feeling emotionally disconnected, recovering from a breach of trust, or simply wanting to strengthen an already healthy relationship, the Gottman Method provides strong strategies to help you build a more satisfying and lasting partnership.
Why Couples Choose the Gottman Method.
